I’ve never been the one to be front and center. For me there is safety being behind the lens, staying backstage. I can control what happens there. This time I threw caution to the wind and jumped in front of the camera. Why now? After all these years, I’ve had the intention of doing an editorial but couldn’t find the right time or a collection that worked for me or my casual style. I finally found one. The Tracee Ellis Ross collection for JCPenney. She announced it on Instagram and as soon as I peeped the garments, I knew this was it. JOYFUL. DELIGHTFUL. INSPIRED. Tracee’s style theme.
Ms. Ross’ collection wins points not only for design but for the price point as well. The haul total was less than $400.00 for eight items. My first intention was to purchase it online but decided at the last minute to check it out at the brick and mortar. It was a nice surprise to see the visual presentation. Her choices of textiles and colors were perfect for mixing and matching. You could wear the duster with the wide leg pant or the duster with the print maxi. My mind was running with all the possible combinations. The Rejoice sweater dresses in Aura Orange/Grey and the Kindness print maxi, Groovy Geo were only $34. The Bliss Duster Coat and Trouser were $59 and $44 respectively.
Tracee’s Heaven Pant is the perfect trouser for an evening event. I purchased a size 20W and it fit perfectly. I paired it with a Brooks Brothers vest and men’s tuxedo shirt with an ascot. The platforms are TUK Shoes Creepers. The last look is my ode to the 90’s. I wore a similar dress with my denim jacket for years on end. It was my staple look. Don’t forget to stop by your local beauty store for cheap and trendy accessories. The red leather bracelets were only a dollar!
This week at The Showroom in Washington D.C., the Real Housewives of Potomac celebrated Gizelle Bryant’s EveryHue Beauty product launch. Gizelle created twelve hues of tinted moisturizer with a foundation brush and blending sponge. She was inspired after having a difficult time finding foundation to match her complexion. The dream of EveryHue Beauty became possible with the addition of three partners, makeup artist Karlene Damallie, Erika Lilles and Sophia Rabkin.
“I could never really find one foundation or tinted moisturizer that matched my skin tone that didn’t read orange or yellow or red so I had to mix things, which becomes expensive so I really wanted to create something in which you didn’t have to do that anymore,” she explains. “So it really required us spending a lot of time in the lab working on the formulations. EveryHue really blends into your skin and matches your skin tone perfectly.” As told to People.com/Colleen Kratofil @ckcolleen
Ms. Bryant has an increased interest in her brand since the launch of Fenty Beauty by Rihanna. She has two major stores interested in purchasing EveryHue Beauty. On Fox5DC Good Day DC, Gizelle stated “Rihanna’s makeup line helped to bring light to the need of women of color. We’ve been ignored and she helped bring attention to it.”
The pop up shop was buzzing with interested potential customers and those wanting their moment in the spotlight. The Bravo series was still in full production at the event, so every housewife made an appearance. Charrisse Jackson Jordan was accompanied by her adorable daughter and BJ Coleman, PR to the stars. Ashley Darby, wearing an emerald green lace jumpsuit, was escorted by her husband, Michael Darby. Monique Samuels(loved her loose waves and body-con dress), Karen Huger and Robyn Dixon (with an ode to the 70’s with a short, flipped hair style a la Farrah Fawcett and sailor pant) also gave their support and looked amazing. Best dressed Curvysta award goes to….drum roll…Mrs. Karen Huger. From head to toe it was obvious that Mrs. Huger took time and energy to get it right!

Cindy Monteiro unveiled her Spring/Summer 2018 collection at the NYFW First Stage. It was the designer’s first showing during NYFW, although she has shown at Paris Fashion Week. Her collection was light and breezy made up of natural fabrics and an amazing attention to details. Her use of diverse models exemplified the culture of Cape Verdean. We can’t wait to see her collection next season.

CIndy Monteiro’s and her future in fashion:
WBLS’s Annual Circle of Sisters Expo was held at the Jacob Javits Convention in NYC. This year top celebrities graced the stage on panels, on the Mainstage and seminars. Vivica Fox, Evelyn Lozada, Stephen Bishop and Rotimi started the morning with Talk TEA with Celebs. Remy Ma, Papoose, JJ Hairston and his wife Trina discussed relationships on the Finding and Staying in Love moderated by Dr. Faith Brown. On the mainstage Estelle, Melanie Fiona and Sevyn Streeter performed their top selections.
The Circle of Sisters held their annual expo this year at the Jacob Javits Center in NYC. The event was hosted by WBLS 107.5 FM, 1190 WLIB AM, and WQHT HOT 97 FM with sponsors varying from AARP, Metro Plus to Shea Moisture. There were panels, concerts and several other individual events to attend, including special guest appearances at vendor booths. Curvysta had the opportunity to cover the concert area backstage and we took full advantage. One of our favorite artists, Melanie Fiona, was ready to give it her all on the Mainstage and she did not disappoint. Ms. Fiona sang all of her hit songs, along with her new “Remember U”, that will undoubtedly become the next R&B hit. We had the opportunity to ask her what her style choice was for this appearance. She said “It’s a little bit of everything.” We love her glam casual denim and indigenous style accessories. They came together beautifully.
The photographers were setting up super early for this show on the riser. They knew that Namilia would deliver an extraordinary fashion event and the designers did not disappoint. Before the models graced the runway in their sky high pearl and gem studded platforms, Disney songs from Beauty and the Beast was played and then the verse “I can get any D@#% I want” and you knew it was time. Time for the Sultan’s magic to begin. The Berlin designers, Nan Li and Emlia Pfohl who met as students at the University of the Arts Berlin, based the S/S 2018 collection on Denis Diderot’s tale of “The Indiscreet Jewels”. The tale is of a sultan with a magic ring that makes women’s vaginas tell their secrets. Most of the garments barely covered the models torsos but were beautifully detailed with floral touches, fabric manipulated into vulvas, bejeweled thongs and bulbous feminine parts. There were a few Chinese traditional gowns, albeit sexily retrofitted. It was truly a ‘cheeky’ experience and we can’t wait for their next collection.
